The 1895 Club – Visiting Guidelines

The 1895 Club is built on friendship, mutual respect, and the tradition of welcoming fellow members to clubs founded in 1895. To ensure every visit is enjoyable for both guests and hosts, we kindly ask all members to observe the following guidelines.

Before Your Visit

  • Arrange your visit in advance. Please contact the host club directly to request a tee time or courtesy visit. Unannounced visits are not permitted.

  • Provide proof of membership. Be prepared to present your 1895 Club membership confirmation and, where required, a current handicap certificate or digital handicap record.

  • Check local policies. Every club has its own traditions, dress code, and visitor regulations. Please familiarise yourself with these before your arrival and respect them throughout your visit.

During Your Visit

  • Represent both your home club and The 1895 Club with courtesy, sportsmanship, and respect.

  • Follow all local club rules, pace-of-play guidelines, and etiquette.

  • Treat members, staff, volunteers, and fellow guests with consideration at all times.

Visiting Frequency

The courtesy offered through The 1895 Club is intended to encourage meaningful connections between member clubs. To help preserve this privilege:

  • Keep the size of visiting groups to a reasonable number.

  • Avoid frequent repeat visits to the same club unless specifically invited or agreed with the host club.

Travel Between Clubs

Traditionally, member clubs were expected to be approximately 75 miles (120 km) apart before reciprocal visits were arranged. This encouraged members to discover new destinations rather than use the scheme as an extension of their local golfing options.

Today, some neighbouring clubs have mutually agreed to reduce this distance. Such arrangements are entirely at the discretion of the clubs involved.

Club-Specific Restrictions

Please note that individual clubs may have specific visitor policies, including:

  • Limits on the number of visiting golfers.

  • Restrictions on weekend or holiday play.

  • Seasonal availability or blackout dates.

  • Additional booking requirements.

Always check these conditions with the host club before making travel arrangements.

The 1895 Club is founded on trust, respect, and friendship. By following these simple guidelines, every member helps preserve the unique hospitality that makes our network so special.
